List of terrorism arrests and charges in Canada

This is a chronological list of every terrorism-related arrest or charge in Canada since October 2023, linked firmly or suspected to “Daesh-inspired” or Islamist/Jihadist radicalization, of which I’m aware. H/T to Jesse Brown whose 2024 list (broader in scope) helped fill this in. These are only terror-related charges, and don’t include, for example, arson attacks on Synagogues. Feb 2024 : Ottawa youths arrested on terrorism charges, bomb plot against Jews on Parliament Hill July 2024 : RCMP says a father and son in the Greater Toronto Area who were recently arrested for alleged terrorist activities involving the Islamic State (ISIS) were planning a “violent attack in Toronto.” July 2024 : A man from Alberta travels to Israel to commit terror attack (noting some progressives won’t see anything wrong with this one). Aug 2024 : RCMP charge youth from GTA for alleged ties to terrorist group Terrorist group not named. I don’t understand why this is the case sometimes. Sep 2024 : Calgary ...

The NDP's Antisemitism Rot and how the Liberals Learned to Look Away

Image
On January 30, 2024, Jewish BC NDP Minister Selina Robinson made a comment about the poor quality of land that Israel inherited in 1948, and was summarily pilloried for it before issuing an apology, which did not save her from losing her cabinet post.  Among those expressing their discontent was federal NDP leader, Jagmeet Singh. As Singh and the NDP like to say, "hate has no place here." Well, here are some things that NDP MPs in Singh's own caucus have posted or done since Oct 7 that did not attract any public comments from Singh or anyone else in the Party. Recall that the Liberals were in what was effectively a coalition government with the NDP throughout this all. Here's Niki Ashton, tweeting her solidarity with CUPE leader Fred Hahn after some CUPE union chapters grew fed up with Hahn after yet another "allegedly" antisemitic post, and below that is Fred Hahn tweeting his excitement the day after the biggest massacre of Jews since the Holocaust.  Now, ...

Paul Champ: A case study in progressive antisemitism

Image
One way to think about bigotry of any kind, antisemitism included, is to imagine it existing on a Richter scale of sorts. Back in 2021, this story from the UK elicited a fair amount of outrage and I believe just about everyone who travels in polite company would characterize this as unequivocal antisemitism. Let's say the Richter scale goes to 10 (it doesn't). This kind of thing registers pretty high.  Ok, let's take a look at Ottawa lawyer and human rights advocate (judging by his X bio) Paul Champ, who became better known nationally during the COVID trucker convoy. I don't exactly mean to pick on Paul, even as he's elicited many groans from the Jewish community over time, but I genuinely think it's instructive to explore how one can still register on the Richter scale while condemning the 9 out of 10 stuff. And in particular, how progressives who only seem to see antisemitism or call it out when it's coming from the white far-right play an active role in ...

Documenting the CBC's normalization of anti-Zionism hatred

The intent of this post is to provide examples of how the CBC, through biases in its reporting, has helped normalize anti-Zionism hatred since October 7.  **************************** On November 21, CBC Ottawa published  this article  noting that a University of Ottawa doctor, Dr. Yipeng Ge, was suspended after  " posting pro-Palestinian messages on social media that were also critical of Israel."  The CBC did not link to the source material that identified the posts in question, either in the November 21 article or in a subsequent  December 22 article  noting that Dr. Ge had resigned from the Canadian Medical Association board of directors due to the backlash over the posts.  The source material came from a  substack article  by another Ottawa doctor, Dr. Yoni Freedhoff. While the CBC referenced Dr. Freedhoff's post, it never provided a link until at least a third article about Dr. Ge was published on January 20, even though it wa...
